Whitesell (Whitzel)

William Whitzel (1828 - 1896)  married Barbara Good (1856 - ?) on  May 14, 1875 in Pickaway County, Ohio. The spelling of Whitzel to Whitesell occured before their firstborn. They had 6 children together.

William Henry Whitesell ~ March 4, 1876 -1960
James Whitesell ~ 1879 - 1955
Charles Whitesell
Lucinda (Cindy) Whitesell
Clara Whitesell
Lottie Whitesell

I don't have alot of information on them but do know that the family lived in Duvall, Ohio for many years and the old farmhouse that the children grew up in is still standing. There is still much more research to be done. I believe that most of the immediate family is buried at Harrison Twp. Cemetery in South Bloomfield, Ohio.

William Henry Whitesell married Agnes Vagnier on February 23, 1909 at Holy Family Church in Columbus, Ohio. They had 3 children together.

Mary Elizabeth (Marie) Whitesell ~ born January 5, 1910 ~ died July 21, 1980 in Columbus, Ohio and is buried at St. Joseph Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio.

William Henry (Bill) Whitesell Jr. ~ born August 16, 1914 ~ died March 4, 1989 in West Jefferson, Ohio and is buried at Sunset Cemetery in Galloway, Ohio.

Agnes Loretta Whitesell ~ born March 15, 1920 ~ died August 26, 2006 in Columbus, Ohio.

Whitesell Children
Marie - Agnes - Bill
The Whitesell family lived in Madison County, Ohio  up until Agnes (Vagnier) Whitesell died in 1933 leaving behind her husband and 3 children. Agnes Loretta (my mother) was placed in St. Vincent Orphanage in Columbus, Ohio, Marie and Bill were old enough to take care of themselves. This part of our history is somehow lost, I have been doing research for several years now and it is still all a big mystery to me. If anyone has stories or information, please comment.

Vagnier Roots... the basics

My mother, Agnes Loretta Whitesell Hope was the daughter of William Henry and Agnes (Vagnier) Whitesell. My story will begin before the immigration of the Vagniers from France to America.
Nicholas and Marie Vagnier both born in the late 1700's of Foug, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France came to the US with their two son's Julius and Louise aboard a ship named "Le Sully".
They departed from Havre, France and arrived in a New York port on May 13, 1843. The Family moved to Lancaster, Ohio in Fairfield County.

Julius Vagnier was born December 31, 1835 in Foug, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France. He died June 26, 1914 and is buried at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio

Susan Schnieder Vagnier
Julius Vagnier married Susan (Beuchler) Schnieder (Snyder) on August, 18, 1873 in Lancaster, Ohio. Susan was born to Adam and Catherine (Matheny) Schnieder (Snyder) somewhere in Germany on October 1, 1840 and died on December 23, 1923.She is Buried at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio.

Julius and Susan had 10 children:
Joseph -1864 - June, 11,1921
Mary Ann -March 14, 1866 - August 30, 1942 - St. Mary Cemetery in Lancaster, Ohio
Julius - b. August 28, 1868 - ?
Louisa Elizabeth - May 20, 1874 - 1947 - Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio
Agnes - December 24, 1875 - September 22, 1933 -  Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio
Henry Nicholas - September 21, 1877 - ?
Leo Frank - April 13, 1879 - ?
Andrew D. - November 10, 1881 - ?

 Adelena - September 10, 1885 - April 9, 1927 -  Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio

Julius and Susan raised their children in Lancaster, Ohio. Julius was a shoemaker there and also owned a clothier shoppe. Susan of course had her hands full as a homemaker and with the children.
